Composition

Fat:Flaxseed contains around 40-45% fat, with a high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids, including ALA (around 55%). It also contains monounsaturated fatty acids (like oleic acid) and a smaller amount of saturated fatty acids. 

Protein:Flaxseed contains 20-30% protein. The major proteins are albumin and globulin

Fiber:Flaxseed is a significant source of dietary fiber, accounting for about 28-35% of its composition. Fiber includes both soluble and insoluble forms. 

Carbohydrates:Flaxseed also contains carbohydrates, with a large portion being fiber, making it relatively low in digestible carbohydrates. 

Vitamins and Minerals:Flaxseed contains several vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins and dietary minerals

Other Compounds:Flaxseed also contains various other compounds, including lignanscyanogenic glycosides, and mucilage gum

Origins

Flaxseed, scientifically known as Linum usitatissimum,originated in the Fertile Crescent region (present-day Turkey, Syria, Iran, etc.) and the Mediterranean area.The earliest evidence of its use dates back to around 8000 BCE, with wild flaxseed found in the Fertile Crescent.Domestication, particularly of the oilseed variety, occurred around 7000 BCE in Syria, with evidence of larger seeds.
