  • It contains five tastes: sour, sweet, pungent, bitter, and astringent, with the most predominant being bitter and astringent.
  • In Ayurveda, myrobalan is used to support digestion, regulate bowel movements, and has antimicrobial properties. It's a key ingredient in Triphala, a rejuvenative tonic. 
  • Myrobalan fruits, especially the chebulic myrobalan, are rich in tannins, which are used to tan cotton and prepare it for dyeing. The tannins bond with metal ions in a mordant bath, fixing the dye onto the fabric.
